Croatia 'A' Finish 3rd in Budapest
30.09.2013.
A fine 72 not out off just 48 balls from Nikola Davidović was the highlight of the weekend for Croatia 'A' as they finished 3rd in the Tri Nations Cup in Budapest, Hungary on the weekend.
Croatia 'A' met the hosts first up in the three-way tournament which also included Poland, and after winning the toss and batting made a bright start before capitulating in the final 10 overs. Opening batsmen Akshay Daxini the standout in a miserly total of 83. Hungary had no trouble knocking the runs off, wrapping up the match without loss in the 12th over.
Croatia 'A' 83 all out (A. Daxini 32, R. Probst 16)
Hungary 86/0 (12 overs)
With Hungary disposing of Poland in the next match, Croatia 'A' needed a win over the Poles to make Sunday's final. After wining the toss the Poles capitalised on some early erratic bowling and looked set for a huge score when they were 140/4 off just 12 overs. A good fight back, thanks largely to captain Craig Sinovich's picking up 4 Polish scalps, restricted Poland to 190 off their 20 overs. Needing close to 10 runs an over from the start the chase was always going to be a difficult one for Croatia 'A', but a 102-run partnership between Davidović (72) and Paul Mušin (41) in fading light got the Croatians to within 35-runs of the target.
Poland 190/9 (C. Sinovich 4-26, P. Mardešić 2-31)
Croatia 'A' 155 / 4 (N. Davidović 72*, P. Mušin 41)
Hungary were too good for Poland for the second time in as many days in the final, meaning they took out the first Tri Nations Cup between the three sides. (photos to follow)
