St John's Wood Win 2nd VIS Title
05.05.2015.St. John’s Wood Cricket Club from London have won the 4th Vis International Sixes tournament held on the picturesque Croatian island of Vis last weekend...
St. John's Wood beat Zagreb's Sokol in Sunday's final to claim their second title in three years. St. John's Wood, who were winners back in 2013, set Sokol an imposing 96 in the final after an impressive batting display. When Sokol lost opener Richard Probst to the second ball of their innings it was always going to be a difficult chase. Tight bowling from St. John's Wood's bowlers saw the Zagreb side fall 19 runs short.
4 teams from the UK (St. John’s Wood, Royal Hotshots, Crooked Seamers, Hurricanes) joined local Croatian teams Sokol (Zagreb), Chiefs Indians (Zagreb), Sir Oliver CC (Split), The Hoste’s (Vis), Slona Pogaca (Vis), and Nesrvstani (Vis), as well as Porto Montenegro from Montenegro in the 3-day annual tournament played in mainly fine weather.
Last year's winners Chiefs Indians could not repeat their performance of 12 months ago after losing two close games which went down to the wire to finish in 6th spot. The Hoste's from Vis could also not manage to repeat their run of appearing in four consecutive finals and had to settle for 5th place.
The consistent Hurricanes from the UK took out 3rd spot, whilst Porto Montenegro, who many tipped after day one to be in the final, had to settle for 4th after injuries hampered key players on finals day.
Congratulations to Sokol's Jasen Butkovic who was named Player of the Tournamet.
The tournament, in its fourth year, was again a huge success and credit must go to Oliver Roki, Steve and the Vis team for doing a stirling job organising the event and the amazing hospitality they provided all the sides and spectators.
